3 Ways Property-Wide Wi-Fi Can Support Remote Work

What is Smart Wi-Fi?

Smart Wi-Fi is property-wide internet access, covering all apartment units and common areas, built specifically for the density of multifamily housing. Smart Wi-Fi and remote work are mutually beneficial.

Residents of apartment buildings with property-wide Wi-Fi pay significantly less for secure, high-speed internet, as opposed to paying more to find their own provider to install internet just in their unit. 

A property-owned network offers internet for each resident’s personal use, a guest network for non-residents, and access for on-site property managers and maintenance. This is the most secure solution to offering Wi-Fi for everyone across the property.

Smart Wi-Fi and Remote Work

1. Ensure a secure working environment. 

Traditional Internet Service Providers serve apartment units one-by-one with in-unit hubs, or unit-based connectivity, and contract with that resident. This leaves vulnerabilities for hackers to take advantage of, as the security of the Wi-Fi in the resident’s unit depends largely on their personal choices.

For example, a Wi-Fi router would provide internet access within an apartment unit. If this router is out in the open, it would be easier for someone to accidentally or intentionally change the settings, or even gain access to the devices connected to it (like smart thermostats, smart lighting, etc). These devices touch sensitive personal information and it could be harmful for someone with bad intentions to have access.

A professionally installed internet protects the areas that could be dangerous if someone accidentally or intentionally changes the settings.

2. Make internet connection consistent across the property.

Residents want to connect to the internet all across the property, not just in their units, especially concerning Smart Wi-Fi and remote work. They may want to take a break from their unit to work in the clubhouse or other common area. With in-unit hubs, a resident going from their unit to a common area would either have to switch networks, or lose access and rely on their own hotspot. With property-wide Wi-Fi, everyone, including residents, property staff, and owners, can have seamless internet access, everywhere on the property.

3. Tailor Wi-Fi for the property and business’s needs.

The Wi-Fi solution is customized to the property’s architecture and needs, on top of already being designed for the complexities of multifamily housing. or remote workers, this is important, as the internet access takes common use cases into account to ensure that connectivity is as strong as possible for Smart Wi-Fi and remote work.
